Hollywood actress Mila Kunis is in Ely today, Ely News can reveal. A member of staff at Ely Cathedral revealed just after 1pm that the movie star was inside the cathedral filming for her next big blockbuster, Jupiter Ascending. Speaking to reporter Jordan Day, the employee said: “I can tell you now that Mila is inside the building.
“I believe she’s actually getting changed inside the Lady Chapel as we speak.”The Ely News revealed last week that global movie giant Warner Bros had chosen to film scenes for Jupiter Ascending at the cathedral. Film fans were also hoping Channing Tatum, who is starring in the movie, would be coming to the city but he is not believed to be featuring in the scenes being shot at the cathedral.
Crews arrived at the cathedral last week to begin setting up and filming started today (Wednesday). It is believed filming will also end today. Dozens of people, mainly young film fans, were gathered outside the cathedral throughout the day hoping to catch a glimpse of any stars but security was tight and all areas being used by Warner Bros were screened off.
Charlie Limes, 21, from Ely, said: “I’ve been hanging around the cathedral for a few hours. “I’d heard filming was taking place today so thought I’d come down here and see if I could see any of the stars, Mila in particular. “There’s no way any of us would be able to see her as security is really tight but it’s still exciting to think she could be inside the cathedral.”Another Kunis fan said: “I’ve heard Mila is going to be racing down the middle of the cathedral on a zip wire but I don’t know how true it is.
“I was in Ely so just thought I’d pop down and see what’s happening, and couldn’t believe the amount of film crew vans and trailers there were. “If Mila or Channing were to emerge from the cathedral all hell would break loose that’s for sure.”
The cast of Jupiter Ascending also includes big actors Sean Bean, Eddie Redmayne, Douglas Booth and Tuppence Middleton. The film itself is due to be released next year and is an original science fiction epic adventure by The Matrix and Cloud Atlas directors, Lana and Andy Wachowski. Speaking last week, Lesley Ann Thompson, marketing manager for Ely Cathedral, said: “It’s obviously extremely exciting news for us and for Ely.
“We haven’t actually known about the filming for very long and we weren’t given as much prior notice as we have been in the past. “Obviously Jupiter Ascending does star Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum but we don’t know whether they’ll be starring in the scenes which will be filmed here.”
It is the sixth time that Ely has been used as a location for a movie now with The King’s Speech, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, The Other Boleyn Girl, The Other Man and a recent Bollywood film also shot at the city’s historic cathedral. The cathedral has been nominated as the Best Film and TV location in the East of England in the past. The production of Jupiter Ascending is expected to remain in the UK through to June, when filming will then move to Chicago for completion.
29-year-old Mila Kunis’ breakout film role happened in 2008 when she played Rachel Jansen in Forgetting Sarah Marshall which followed early career television appearances in Baywatch and Days of Our Lives. She also provides the voice of Meg Griffin in Seth MacFarlane’s animated series, Family Guy.
Subsequent film roles included Mona Sax in Max Payne, Solara in The Book of Eli, Jamie in Friends with Benefits, and Lori in comedy Ted. Her performance as Lily in Black Swan gained her worldwide accolades, including nominations for a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role.
Channing Tatum, 32, is best known for his roles in Step Up, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Dear John, The Vow, 21 Jump Street, Magic Mike, and G.I. Joe: Retaliation. He has also appeared in films such as Coach Carter, She’s the Man, A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, Fighting, and The Dilemma.
